Obstructing Identification – Resisting a Peace Officer

8/21 – 12:08 a.m. – A Millstadt Officer initiated a traffic stop at Washington and Jefferson, due to the vehicle’s registration being expired and suspended.  During an investigation, it was discovered the driver lied about his identity due to a felony drug warrant out of Clinton County.  When the Millstadt Officer and two assisting Smithton Officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he resisted.  During the incident, one of the Smithton Officers received an injury to his hand.

On 8/22 the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged the defendant, Floyd E. Alexander III age 31 of New Baden, with the following:

Count 1: Resisting a Peace Officer; A Class 4 Criminal Felony, Category B Offense.  (this charge was enhanced due to the Smithton Officer being injured).

Count 2: Resisting a Peace Officer; A Class A Criminal Misdemeanor, Category B Offense.

Count 3: Obstructing Identification; A Class A Criminal Misdemeanor, Category B Offense.

His bond was set at $40,000.
