On today’s date, at approximately 5:15 p.m., police were notified by a citizen on West Mill Street of a suspicious person who approached her. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. The subject knocked on her door and made reference to being with either the county or the power company, and how she had not checked a certain box on her power bill, which could save her money. The individual wanted to come into the house so he could show her how to check the correct box. The complainant denied him access to the residence. He was last seen on foot, westbound in the 300 block of W. Mill. He was described as a white male, in his 30’s, 6’00” with a thin build, short brown thin hair, bad teeth, wearing a white polo and khaki pants, wearing a photo ID around his neck that had no company name or government name or logo. The complainant stated there was a small white car nearby, but she did not think it was related to the incident.
Although the intentions of this individual are unknown, the police department encourages everyone to do what this complainant did, and not let them in your house. Any suspicious activity such as this should be reported to the police department by utilizing the 9-1-1 system. If anyone else had a similar episode happen today, please contact the police department.

In reference to the suspicious person on Mill Street, another resident called and stated he was approached by the same subject, but stated he was wearing a black polo with the company name “Direct Energy.” This could possibly be a representative from a legitimate company however, they would need a permit to solicit in the village, and at this time they do not.
