The St. Clair County Genealogical Society meets 7 p.m. Thurs., Mar. 7 at St. Luke’s Parish Hall, 226 N. Church St., Belleville. Whether it’s called a frontier or borderland, Illinois occupies a unique niche between the “Old Northwest” and the “Old West.” It was the furthest Western reach of three empires — the French, the British and the United States. Native Americans and their alliances with the French and British were also formative influences. John Keck leads the journey for “Illinois and the History of the West.”
