Cahokia Mounds Ancient History Walk
Saturday, Sep 15 @ 9:30 am
You are invited to join the Illinois Trekkers Volkssport Club in “exploring” Cahokia Mounds on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Walk routes are mapped on the grounds for distances of 5 kilometers and 12 kilometers. Participants may walk at their own pace and distance. Register for the walk from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Interpretive Center, 30 Ramey Street, Collinsville, Illinois. The registration fee is $3.00 for all participants.
Special features along the walk routes include Monks Mound, the largest pre-Columbian earthen structure in all of North and South America (equivalent to a 10-story building), Woodhenge, a circular sun calendar, the Stockade, and numerous earthen mounds built nearly a century ago for ceremonial purposes. Additional information about this walk event is available in the attached brochure and article, as well as on the Illinois Trekkers website: http://www.illinois-trekkers.org/event/cahokia-mounds-ancient-history-walk/2018-09-15/.
